Our values

It's not just the outcome of our work that makes a difference — it's how we go about it.

We strive to make a positive difference for society and the environment, as well as for our clients and our team. We're an accredited recycler with the ACT Government and support remote and flexible working arrangements for our staff to reduce travel needs and maintain a healthy work–life balance.

We recognise the hidden impacts that come with our line of work, particularly energy use and the accessibility issues associated with digital content. We consider the environment and society as beneficiaries of our work — much of our focus is on communicating environmental, health and social issues.

We consider environmental and social needs at all stages of our work, to make sure our solutions are as accessible and low-energy as possible.

Our story

Biotext's story reflects the journey of many of our team members — a journey from science to communication.

In 1990, our founder, Janet Salisbury, made the move from cancer research to consultancy, writing and editing. In 1999, Biotext was established and quickly filled a niche for communicating complex information for government departments, non-government organisations and academic institutions.

Today, our team come from various science and communication backgrounds, and share a passion for making complex information accessible, understandable and engaging.

Janet has a PhD in experimental oncology from Manchester University, United Kingdom, and worked in cancer research at St George's Hospital Medical School, London (1976–82), the University of Melbourne, Department of Medicine (1983–84) and the John Curtin School of Medical Research (1986–88). She has a particular interest in evidence-based practice and was one of the first people in the world to advocate applying evidence-based medicine methods to environmental management in 2002. In 2020, she founded the Women's Climate Congress.
